Holy Spirit
I received Jesus as my
personal Savior in 1974. I was 14 years of age. In my early years as a
Christian, I attended a very traditional church. At the Sunday Worship
Services, we sang mainly hymns without any musical instruments. Even in
those years, I was fervent in my faith and actively serving God in my
school fellowships. In 1979, I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
This was a major event in my Christian life as it opened up a whole new
realm in my worship to God. Songs began to flow from my heart. In 1981,
my home church Full Gospel Tabernacle (FGT) was birthed. At the same
time, many songs were birthed out of my experience in the early years of
FGT. The songs flowed from my heart and reflected my love and passion
for God. By 1989, within a span of 10 years, I had written nearly 40
songs.
Then came a period in my
life when I stopped writing. Between 1989 to middle 1995, over a span of
6 years, I wrote only one song. It is hard to explain why I stopped
writing. I was definitely not backsliding. I was actively serving in
church. I was still pastoring one of our daughter churches. You will
still find me in every church service. But the songs stopped flowing. I
did try to write a few songs during the 6 year period but threw all of
them away as I felt something was missing in them.
While my songs were drying
up, my career was sky rocketing. In 1989, I joined the Soon Seng Group.
By 1993, I was appointed the General Manager of the Steel Division. By
1996, I was appointed the Senior General Manager, looking after 400-500
employees in the company. Looking back, I think the pressures of both
secular and Christian work took away much of the time I used to spend
worshipping God with the songs of my heart.
But God is gracious and
has a plan for my life and my songs. In 1995, a significant event took
place. My home church had invited a speaker from Canada who was moving
very much in the "Toronto Blessings". I was originally very
skeptical about this experience. Being a rather reserved person and
quite analytical in my thinking, I did not really believe God would move
in such a manner. That night at the meeting, I saw with my own eyes the
power of Holy Spirit moving in many lives. My doubts melted away as I
personally experienced the renewal of the Holy Spirit in my life. When I
went home that night, I took out my guitar and the song "Flow Holy
Spirit" was birthed in my heart. Within half an hour, I had written
the music and all the 4 verses of the song. After a six year dry spell,
I experienced a special touch of the Holy Spirit and my songs were
flowing again. I started to write passionately again. Between 1995 to
2001, I wrote another 30 songs.
In 1998, I received the
call of God on my life. It was a very hard decision to leave my job as I
was so highly paid. Nevertheless, by the grace of God and the power of
the Holy Spirit, I obeyed the call of God on my life. In 1999, I left my
secular job to serve God full time and took the position as Principal of
Tung Ling Seminary.
I can only say that
"Flow Holy Spirit" is my personal experience of how the Holy
Spirit came and brought a new refreshing into my life. I pray that if
you do learn the song, you will also experience the power of the Holy
Spirit to bring a powerful change to your life.
FLOW HOLY SPIRIT
Flow Holy Spirit
Let Your mighty river flow
Refreshing every soul
O Holy Spirit flow.
Blow Holy Spirit
Let the mighty wind of God blow
Renewing every soul
O Holy Spirit blow.
Let Your mighty river flow
Let the mighty wind of God blow
Moving in Your power
Touching every soul.
Come Holy Spirit
Fill My heart anew
Touch me with Your power
O Holy Spirit come.
