Day 2 - GOD'S GLORY OR SELF GLORY ?
Scripture Reading: Ex 30:34-38
Ex 30:34-38
34And the LORD said to Moses: "Take sweet spices, stacte and onycha and galbanum, and pure frankincense with these sweet spices; there shall be equal amounts of each. 35You shall make of these an incense, a compound according to the art of the perfumer, salted, pure, and holy. 36And you shall beat some of it very fine, and put some of it before the Testimony in the tabernacle of meeting where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you. 37But as for the incense which you shall make, you shall not make any for yourselves, according to its composition. It shall be to you holy for the LORD. 38Whoever makes any like it, to smell it, he shall be cut off from his people."
Discussion
Incense in the Bible is often a symbol of prayer and worship. This passage is the original instructions how the incense should be made. We can see that God gave the formula for worship. Besides this, the spices had to be grounded to make it fine. This speaks to us that worship is about what God wants and not what man likes. Worship must come from a broken spirit and a contrite heart.
This particular incense is also exclusively for God. Anyone who uses it for himself is cut off from his people. This is a solemn warning to us to use our gift of music for God's glory. Often, musicians fall because of pride. Lucifer fell because of pride. The very gift that God gave us for worship could also lead to our downfall when we take the glory for ourselves. Give God the glory in your music. Worship is exclusively for Him.
Prayer
Father, I thank you for your gift of music. I dedicate my music again to you and pray that I will always use it for Your glory.
