WAH LOK'S WORSHIP DEVOTIONS

Wah Lok
Wah Lok

Welcome to my devotional page. I have written these devotions specially for those involved in the worship ministry. As you read them daily, I hope you will walk closer with God. Try to do one devotion per day and not all at one go. I pray my devotional thoughts will help you dedicate your music to God.

DAY 39 - THE HEART OF WORSHIP - THE SONG OF THE DECADE?

Ps 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart--
These, O God, You will not despise.

Acts 13:22-23 And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.'

Heart of Worship

"When the music fades, and all is stripped away, And I simply come
Longing just to bring something that's of worth that will bless Your heart,
I'll bring You more than a song, For a song in itself is not what You're looking for
You search much deeper within, Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart
I am coming back to the heart of worship when its all about You
All about You Jesus"
Matt Redman - UK Songwriter

Discussion

I have listened to hundreds of CDs and thousands of songs over the last 10 years. If I were to be asked to choose the best song of the decade, I will pick the "Heart of Worship" written by Matt Redman. The song has a tremendous history behind it. Matt Redman is a worship leader of a church in the United Kingdom. Even with talented recording artistes in their worship team, his Pastor felt something missing in their worship. To get to the root of the problem, they decided to set aside all their musical instruments for a period of time and began to worship God simply without any musical instruments. It was during this period that Matt Redman wrote this famous song which speaks about what God is looking for in worship. God is looking for a people after His own heart. He is looking for people who will worship him with a broken spirit and a contrite heart.

In the world we live today, Gospel Music has blossomed into a US 3 billion dollar industry just in the United States alone. Even non Christians record Gospel albums. It is no wonder that God speaks to His church with a song like this. God wants us to reconsider our worship songs again. Much of Gospel Music have degenerated into Christian entertainment. People like to be entertained in church with beautiful songs. God looks beyond the songs and examine our hearts.

The more I listen to the Heart of Worship, the more I realize that it is God's prophetic message to His Church. It is my personal choice as the best song of the decade.

Prayer

Father, I pray that my heart will always be broken and contrite before you.
